Red turtle turn! The rooms and hallways of RPRY buzzed with the sounds of students engaged in the engineering design process and computer coding. Students celebrated Hour of Code in lower school. Hour of Code programs are done around the birthday of one of the pioneering women of computers, Admiral Grace Murray Hopper. Students engaged with many higher order thinking skills such as patterning, categorization, synthesis and analysis, as they developed coding patterns and syntax through kinesthetic games. Along with regular computer instruction, this prepares students for the more advanced coding they engage in weekly in middle school, with the CIJE BYTES computer coding for fifth and sixth graders, and the VEX robotics program for seventh and eighth graders.
