In the RPRY art department, the fourth graders were introduced to the work of glass artist Dale Chihuly. Students were captivated by the fiery glass blowing process as demonstrated in a video made in Chihuly’s studio. They then created a “Chihuly-type” sculpture of their own creation, using shrink material and colored inks. Heating the shrink material mimicked the actual glass-blowing process, where the blower has some control with a degree of serendipity, to the excitement of the students. RPRY’s broad education provides students multiple areas to explore and shine!
