Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Last week, the 8th-grade students were privileged to hear from Rabbi Yosef Sayagh, who runs the Shatnez Laboratory of Lakewood and does regular shatnez testing in our community, to learn more about the mitzvah of shatnez, which they learned about this year in Parshat Kedoshim, and was this past week’s parsha. Rabbi Sayagh explained the two pessukim that discuss this mitzvah—in Devarim and VaYikra—shared some of the pertinent halachik disputes about what exactly the prohibition is, demonstrated the process of combing, spinning and weaving wool, linen, and wool and linen, and shared practical applications of the laws. He also shared inspirational stories about the importance of keeping this important mitzvah and how we can protect ourselves from violating it. RPRY thanks Morah Nitza for arranging this amazing experience and Rabbi Sayagh for helping them take Torah learning from the classroom to their everyday lives.
