RPRY participated in the “Hess STEM to the Rescue” program under the aegis of its ongoing Think Tank STEM initiative. The program focused on the math and science principles which emergency responders experience daily and was developed in a partnership between Baylor College of Medicine and the HESS Corporation.
Under Mrs. Jeffries’ guidance, students focused on how vehicles work with gravity and inclined planes. They used their Hess trucks on ramps that they constructed, as well as with altered surfaces, to compare the effect of friction on the vehicle’s power to climb the ramp. Exercises explored friction, momentum, inclined planes, push/pull, mass/distance and engineering in an engaging way.
