RPRY’s kindergarten STEM class explored, “How can you find animals in the woods?” Students learned how every animal has the need to seek safety and acted out these behaviors. When people see animals in the wild, very often they are seeking safety.
The class took a walk in the woods. Anywhere there are trees, bushes, or plants of any sort, there are always bugs and other larger animals to be observed. The kids spotted squirrels, birds and insects.
A child’s curiosity can be encouraged at home by going on a walk, even to a nearby park, to look for animals. When you see an animal such as a bird, squirrel, rabbit or deer, ask your child, “Why do so many animals not let us get too close?” You can remind them of the connection between seeking safety, and why animals run from us.
