The fifth grade students at RPRY spent the day at Liberty Hall Museum in Union, New Jersey, where their social studies curriculum came to life. Through hands-on activities, they learned all about colonial life in New Jersey in the 1700s. The students had the opportunity to tour parts of the colonial home belonging to William Livingston, the first governor of the state of New Jersey. They also learned about the unsung heroes of the American Revolution, and even had the chance to sign an oath (with quill and ink) stating whether they chose to be a patriot, loyalist or to stay neutral during the war. A highlight for all was the time spent playing with authentic colonial toys such as “hoop and stick” and the “game of graces.” What a fun, educational experience!
