RTMA JV Basketball Moves Into 3rd Place in Their Division

The RTMA/JEC Thunder JV team evened their Yeshiva League season record and moved into 3rd place in the Yeshiva League West Division this week, with two resounding wins.

On Monday, November 14, the Westchester Wolverines came to the RTMA’s redesigned gym to face a storming Thunder squad, fresh off two closely fought losses to Frisch and MTA.

The Thunder responded with a 68-25 win, marked by 12 treys and 13 of the 14 players on the squad finding their way into the scoring column for the Thunder.

RTMA was led by PG/SG Aharon Heller’s 13 pts, and Shmuel Gelbfish’s 12, including three treys. Keeping the pace was PF Jake Goldberg and PG Ricky Goodman’s eight points apiece. Hillel Glick (3), Aaron Cohen (3), Joe Sandler (2) and Dovid Rozezadah (2) contributed to the winning effort.

On Wednesday night, November 16, in a highly anticipated neighborhood rivalry, the Kushner Cobras came to JEC seeking to advance their 1-0 record to 2-0. It was not to be.

The Cobras led 7-6 early in the game, but torrid shooting by PG Moshe Heller (8) and SF Yair Kimmel (5) enabled RTMA to take control of the game and lead 17-9 at the end of the first quarter.

From there it was all Thunder noise, as RTMA exploded for 22 points in the second period, led by Kimmel and Goldberg, who each netted nine points in the period.

On the other side of the floor, the RTMA pressing and trapping defense held Kushner to seven points and the Thunder led at the half 39-16.

RTMA continued to score and defend in the third period, outscoring the Cobras 21-7, building a 60-23 lead, enroute to the 68-35 finale.

Kimmel finished with 17 pts. Moshe Heller and Goldberg each had 14 pts. Aharon Heller and Sandler contributed six pts. each, and freshman Noah Pascher scored his first JV points and finished with four pts.

The Thunder tallied 8-8 from the foul line and netted six treys.

On Monday night, November 21, RTMA travels to Bergen County again, this time to meet powerhouse TABC JV in Teaneck, in a game that promises to be exciting and hard fought.
