The Hebrew Free Burial Society developed a program to teach about Chesed Shel Emet, doing a kindness for someone who will never be able to return the kindness, which involves caring for the deceased. This past week RYNJ 8th grade students traveled to the Staten Island Jewish Cemetery where they spent time cleaning away debris and developing a sense of kavod for the deceased buried there. Since funds are limited because those buried there could not afford to pay for a burial, volunteers are called upon to maintain the upkeep. The school is very proud of its students who participated in this unique chesed.
