Wednesday, November 21, the day before Thanksgiving, was an extraordinary day for the RYNJ middle school. RYNJ student council decided that the theme for the second Kiddush Levana breakfast, would be giving thanks. Along with a delicious breakfast with some special treats, the greatest treat was the demonstration of gratitude RYNJ students showcased. Unbeknownst to the staff, students submitted names of rebbeim and teachers who have positively impacted them through the years. With over 100 entries, the names of the rebbeim and teachers along with the students’ messages were taped across the cafeteria windows—a window into the stellar staff of RYNJ. After a brief introduction about the invaluable importance of hakarat hatov, members of the student council lifted the shades to reveal the messages. The staff and students all crowded around to read the praise and appreciation.
Minutes later, the office staff, maintenance staff, business office staff and the security team were welcomed and cheered for as the oftentimes unsung heroes of a school. Of the 30 members of the support staff who were present, the president and vice president of the student council offered a personalized certificate of thanksgiving on behalf of all the students of RYNJ.
