RYNJ fifth and sixth grade students recently enjoyed two exciting Sunday morning hands-on learning opportunities. RYNJ had the privilege of hosting sofer Raphael Hirsch. Rav Hirsch reviewed certain halachot relating to mitzvot STAM and had samples of a portion of a sefer Torah, a megilah and parts of tefillin. As each of the students had the chance to handle these items, their appreciation and understanding of this holy work dramatically increased. This past Sunday, fifth and sixth grade boys enjoyed an action packed program where they were inspired by a stirring story of one boy’s determination to wear his tzitzit, followed by a brief presentation of the halachot of tzitzit, and then had the opportunity to make their own pair themselves. It was such an incredible pleasure when students came to school on Monday and proudly reported, “Rabbi, I’m wearing the tzitzis I made on Sunday!”
