Mrs. Elana Kaplan, RYNJ parent and Museum Educator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, visited the third grade classes at RYNJ. She presented a program entitled Math in Art. The students observed, analyzed and discussed several paintings of famous artists. Each connected to math, whether with numbers, shapes or patterns. The students studied several paintings by Andy Warhol, who liked to make paintings that contained repeated images. They also learned that he liked to paint things that were popular at that time such as Curious George, Campbell’s soup cans and Mickey Mouse. The students then had the opportunity to make their own prints featuring multiple images.
