SAR Academy returned from midwinter break buzzing with excitement for Shavua Ivrit, the school’s lively celebration of the Hebrew language held from February 18 to 21. Inspired by the recent birthday of Eliezer Ben Yehuda, the visionary behind modern Hebrew, the week was packed with engaging and fun-filled activities designed by SAR’s amazing Ivrit faculty.
Students across all grades immersed themselves in the spirit of Hebrew through interactive games, music, delicious food and lively conversations. The celebration kicked off with a vibrant launch during Tefilot On The Steps, setting the tone for an unforgettable week.
Throughout Shavua Ivrit, students participated in creative projects such as crafting Shrinky Dink keychains with their Hebrew names and making colorful bracelets with meaningful Hebrew words. They played Hebrew word Dominoes and Memory Games, explored a special Hebrew game room, and engaged in exciting cross-grade learning experiences. Hebrew words and phrases were posted all over the school, reinforcing language learning in a fun and immersive way. During independent work times, classrooms filled with the sounds of Hebrew music, and some general studies lessons were even taught in Hebrew to further integrate the language into daily learning.
Shavua Ivrit is more than just a celebration of Hebrew; through language, culture and shared experiences, students not only strengthened their Ivrit skills but also deepened their bond with Israel, making the week both meaningful and memorable.
