SAR Academy Hosts Leil Dor L’Dor

On Wednesday, SAR’s fifth graders hosted their parents, grandparents and other special guests, via Zoom, for Leil Dor L’Dor. Relatives and friends joined in from all around NY, other states such as Florida, Colorado, Michigan, and internationally from Canada, Australia and Israel.

The program was a beautiful celebration of the legacy that one generation passes to another. It provided a golden opportunity for the children to connect with their parents and grandparents through Torah learning, interviews, art and history.

The evening began with each family in a breakout room where the fifth grade students became teachers and taught about the chain of Torah transmission from Moshe until today. They explored sources from the Mishna, Gemara, rishonim and achronim. They then shared discussions about how life is different for an 11 year old “then and now.”

Following the learning, the students and their special guests took a tour of the Virtual Living Museum, which showcased each student’s unique family heirloom. Here, the students became docents and guided their guests through the various galleries. The museum is a culmination of months of learning about the history of each family artifact, how to write artifact labels, the origin of their Hebrew names and the creation of memorable paintings on the Procreate app.

The fifth graders are so proud to have become strong links in the extraordinary chain of the mesorah between the generations, m’dor l’dor.
