SAR High School Students Hear from Yankee Mentors

The Sport Management Mentoring Program was implemented to expose local high school students, ages 15-18, to various careers associated with professional sports. On a monthly basis, the New York Yankees work in conjunction with various schools/organizations that identify approximately 25 students to attend an interactive discussion with front office personnel who share their career paths, position/day-to-day responsibilities, how their work supports game-day activities, and an overview of what takes place off the field. In addition, students are treated to lunch and a behind-the-scenes tour of Yankee Stadium.

On February 3rd, 26 juniors and seniors from SAR High School in Riverdale descended upon Yankee Stadium for a New York Yankees Sports Management Mentoring Program. The upperclassmen had the privilege of hearing from five separate presenters from the organization who work in departments ranging from marketing to game-day operations and offered insights to the SAR students on how to make it in the sports industry. Following the two-hour program, the juniors and seniors were treated to a behind-the-scenes stadium tour, which included stops in the dugout, the Yankee museum, Monument Park, and corporate suites and hospitality areas.

Ben Winter a junior at SAR HS said, “Although I am Mets fan this was a meaningful, fun, anD educational visit to Yankee Stadium.”
