SAR HS Academic Teams Dominate

Over the past couple of weeks, the calendar has been packed with academic competitions but SAR High School team members were more than prepared. They brought their best games to Mock Trial, Model UN, Math and CIJE competitions where their knowledge and acumen shined.

SAR had an amazing showing at the MMATHS 2025 competition at Yale. The team took third place in the team round, and Asher F. (9th grade) won 1st place in the individual round.

SAR’s Mock Trial Team enjoyed an exceptional season, culminating in a historic Sweet Sixteen appearance for the first time in the program’s history. Under the leadership of co-captains Maya J. and Yair W., the team demonstrated remarkable skill and determination, first securing three consecutive wins in state court and then advancing to present their case at the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Federal Courthouse in Manhattan. With their sights set on continued growth, the team is eager to build upon this year’s achievements next year.

SAR students proudly represented Sweden, Bosnia and Herzegovina at YUNMUN (Yeshiva University National Model United Nations). Delegates tackled global issues, engaged in diplomacy and built strong coalitions in their committees. Mazal Tov to the entire team and special congratulations to Sophie H., Sophie G., Doni M., Eli B. and Zoe M. for winning awards in their committees.

In a Model U.N. update, students returned from another incredible JCYMUN (Jewish Canadian Youth Model United Nations) Conference in Montreal. They represented their assigned countries with skill and dedication, demonstrating the hard work they’ve put in all year. Thanks to their commitment to diplomacy, debate and global leadership, they really shined. Congratulations to Maytal E-K, Jordanna G., Ariel B., Naomi C., Daniela G., Amalia G., Anni K., Erez S. and Ella L. on their well-deserved awards.

Last week, SAR hosted the Yeshiva League Math Bowl. Organized by SAR math team advisor Ms. Alisa Schenker and math team captains Shira G., Leah B., David M. and Daniel S., students from across the Yeshiva League gathered to answer all questions about math. Competing were teams from SAR, Frisch, MTA, TABC and Heschel. After three intense rounds, Frisch and SAR competed in a final round, with SAR taking home the win. Congratulations to Asher F., David I., Hadar G. and Jeremy P. from the winning SAR team and Yasher Koach to everyone who competed.

The NYC FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) robotics championship is a regional competition within the FIRST Robotics program where teams design, build, program and operate robots to compete in head-to-head challenges, focusing on STEM skills and engineering principles. Team 20789—Paranoid Androids on Steroids led by Charlotte F., Jonah P. and Eytan R. finished 15th in the NYC Championship out of 121 teams in the entire city including Bronx Science, Stuyvesant, Dalton, among others. The team’s strong efforts and teamwork marked the end of SAR’s best season yet. All three teams including SAR2D2, captained by Aryeh H., Asher W. and Aron K., and RoboSapiens, captained by Asher K., Ilay G. and David M. did an amazing job—working together, helping each other, and teaching and mentoring newer team members.

Congratulations to all!
