SAR HS American Jewish Experience Class Takes Trip

Laura Frank’s American Jewish Experience class traveled to Philadelphia to visit the National Museum of American Jewish History. Students were so excited to see artifacts they had learned about in class with their own eyes, and found new treasures that they thoroughly enjoyed contextualizing and analyzing using their extensive knowledge of American Jewish history. A particular highlight for students was seeing the 1791 correspondence between Moses Seixas, the sexton of the Touro Synagogue and George Washington, a correspondence they had studied and analyzed extensively in class. As the class had just completed studying the Eastern European migration (1881-1924), students also enjoyed the well-curated exhibit devoted to this period. They took particular pride in their extensive knowledge about Jewish work in the garment industry, Jewish socialism and Yiddish culture during the migration, all of which were richly and beautifully depicted in the museum. After a wonderful day at the museum, they made a quick stop to visit the Liberty Bell before heading back home.
