SAR HS Builds Bridges To Fight Antisemitism

Seniors at Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School invited students from SAR High School to address them about the work the two schools have been doing together to build bridges amongst neighbors and to fight antisemitism. Seniors Akiva Schanzer, Stephan Nayowitz and Emma Shaykin addressed the 12th graders. Schanzer said to the audience, “Through our relationships and getting to know each other, whether it be joining together for basketball or a block party, we discover what is obvious to all of us, but what we sometimes forget—we are all human, all creations of God, all created in His image. We are far more alike than we are different. When someone makes a racist comment about any ethnic group or minority, it hurts us because we all have the same Creator and we are all human. The same is true when there’s an attack on the Jewish community, whether verbal or physical. Antisemitism should hurt you just like it hurts me.”
