SAR HS Girls Volleyball Teams Complete Successful Seasons

The cheers could be heard across Bergen County this past weekend as the SAR HS girls’ JV and varsity volleyball teams completed successful seasons. The JV team finished 9-2 and won the championship against Frisch with a score of 2-1.

Since the beginning of the year, they showed their strength on the court and as the season progressed they continuously improved. They mastered their overall knowledge of the game, their specific skills, and their ability to work as a team, anticipating moves and following the ball over the net from the very first shot.

“I am so proud of their hard work and dedication throughout the season as well as their determination to succeed ,” said Coach Valerie Gryzlo. “Finishing in first place was a huge accomplishment and one that they will always remember.”

“We had a really fun season led by an amazing coach,” said freshman Zoey E. “I think the key to winning is having supportive teammates and keeping our energy up no matter what happens.”

“This season, our team has become incredibly close as volleyball is all about trust and communication,” said sophomore Audrey A. “The spirit on the team is unmatched!”

The team for me has been such a unique experience,” said freshman Leah F. “More so than any other co-curricular at SAR, the JV volleyball team has really become like a family for me these past few months. It brought me so much closer to people in my grade and the one above who share a love for volleyball. The emotional rigor of practicing and playing together as a team made me appreciate every single one of my teammates’ strengths and specialties. I’ve loved every minute, and I already miss this year’s season. As an aside, I want to thank Coach Gryz. I truly can’t thank her enough for this season.”

The girls’ varsity volleyball team led an unprecedented undefeated season and made it to the championship game against HANC on Sunday. The team unfortunately fell short in the finals but they walked out proud and grateful for a great season.

“This game doesn’t define the girls as a team,” said Gryzlo. “They are amazing players and will hold the memories and experience with them forever. Their improvement and dedication to the team throughout the season grew tremendously and this is what has made the SAR HS volleyball program so successful.”
