A new cohort of 18 SAR students met with 18 Comp Sci High students this week at Comp Sci High School. Through icebreakers and games, students shared aspects of their culture and family life that make them proud. There was also a short reading on what it is like for college students who are first in their family to attend college, followed by an engaging discussion about the reading.
“I am excited that more students will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations while forming new friendships,” said History Teacher and Comp Sci High Coordinator Caryn Keller. “It was incredible to see students from both schools beaming with pride as they shared parts of their identities and cultures that they feel most proud of.”
“I was so happy to reunite with my friends from Comp Sci High,” said Zahara S. “The environment we are able to create together is always filled with positivity, openness, and inclusion. Being able to take part in this program for another year is such an honor.”
“Today at Comp Sci High, not only did I have a fun time meeting such friendly people, but my experience getting to learn about different cultures and being able to share my own was so meaningful,” added Annie M. “I learned a lot about the way people outside my own community live, and I feel we were able to find valuable commonalities and also appreciate our differences.”
SAR is grateful to Comp Sci High for their hospitality in their beautiful brand new building.
