SAR Wins YMSSA 7B Championship

SAR seventh grade boys took on RYNJ Sunday night in the championship game at TABC. The two teams split during the regular season. Both teams winning on the road, which is never an easy task. It was a battle of two different styles. SAR wanted to use their height advantage, as RYNJ relied on their elite shooting from the 3-point line. The crowd was electric from the opening tip and continued until the final whistle. Ami Wachsman made his presence felt in the first quarter scoring seven of SAR’s 10 first quarter points. The second quarter began with SAR leading 10-8. SAR built a six point lead in the second quarter, but RYNJ stormed right back to cut the lead in half. SAR led 21-18 going into halftime. Both teams went to the locker room to regroup and get ready for the second half.

Once again both teams traded baskets and neither could go on a run to pull away. Natan Pearlman, was a thorn in SARs side all day on the defensive end as well as running the point for RYNJ. Back to back turnovers from SAR that led to a lay up for Ephraim Aschkenasu gave RYNJ the lead with one minute to go in the third quarter. JJ Heisler buried a 3-pointer to end the third quarter and give SAR a two-point lead going into the fourth quarter. SAR came out strong in the fourth quarter and really focused on pounding the ball inside. The height and strength took a toll on the smaller RYNJ team which helped them build a 10 point lead and eventually win 57-38. Daniel Fromer finished with 16 points, Ami Wachsman had 17 and JJ Heisler had 13. Although SAR won by 19 the game was a lot closer than the score indicates. Congratulates to RYNJ and Coach Eli Wolk on a terrific season. They are always well prepared and extremely well coached.
