Schechter Sharks Are Middle School Soccer Champs

(Schechter sports) A year ago, a predominantly sixth and seventh-grade boys soccer team from Schechter Bergen  stunned the yeshiva middle school soccer league and won their first soccer championship in school history. This week, the Schechter Sharks found themselves back in the championship game, but this time as the #1 seed, undefeated and the favorites to repeat as champions. The 2024 championship game also featured another undefeated team in Kushner who had a marvelous year and was only seeded #2 based on tiebreakers with Schechter Bergen. As expected, the game was tight and hard fought. After a 0-0 first period, the Sharks finally broke through with a goal midway through the second quarter. Eitan Davies sent a long pass through the air from the defensive zone to a wide open Or Bar-Oz who made a spectacular deflection over the head of the Kushner goalie. The game went to the half with the Sharks leading 1-0.

Heading into the third quarter, the Sharks were fired up and ready to push the pace as they had done all year long. With the second half of games being a strength for Schechter Bergen, the Sharks scored two goals within the first five minutes of the third quarter stretching their lead to 3-0.

Entering into the fourth quarter, the Sharks mentality went from offense to defense. Goalie Ben Miller’s focus was keeping Kushner off the board and securing the victory for the Schechter Sharks. The once underdog team of young sixth and seventh graders, the Schechter Sharks have taken the Yeshiva League by storm, secured their second championship in a row and finished their season undefeated at 11-0. Congratulations to both Kushner and Schechter Bergen teams on a hard fought season!
