It is every athlete’s dream to excel in their respective sport in front of an enormous crowd. Just the thought of proving their skills and making incredible plays before everyone in attendance is what motivates every player every single day.
This past week at SAR High School, the Boys Varsity basketball team was presented with this opportunity at Sting Night. Once a year, SAR High School uses a sports game as a vehicle for celebrating all of their athletes and showcasing their school spirit. The entire day is dedicated to the unmatched spirit the school contains for all its events. All students and faculty arrive in “sting-wear,” engage in a pregame pep rally and express their enthusiasm as they cheer on their school team.
This past Thursday, SAR High School held its annual Sting Night. The entire school was wearing their favorite SAR merchandise, the pep rally sparked contagious energy, and the atmosphere was filled with astounding school spirit. Money was raised throughout the night to support the LA wildfires. As a preview to the big game, the Girls Varsity basketball team took on the female faculty, and students got a chance to see some of their favorite teachers on the court.
To be a player on the court, as the entire school fills the gym to cheer you on, is a dream come true. It is the exact moment every athlete fantasizes about and prepares for. “The energy was electric. It was by far the greatest environment I’ve ever been in for a basketball game,” recounted senior player Caleb Eden. “It’s a night I’m never going to forget.”
Despite suffering a heartbreaking loss to Ramaz, the SAR Sting embraced Sting Night as more than just a defeat. The importance of the night goes beyond the outcome of the game; it represents the unity, morale, and courage of the SAR community. As senior starter Saul Hochheiser described, “Sting Night is a great opportunity to see the whole SAR community come together. Everyone participates in the festivities. As a senior, it’s truly amazing to see the community you’ve been a part of for the last four years come together for such a special night.”
