CDG Celebrates New Shul

Camp Dora Golding has been raising the bar of camping for over a decade: air conditioned bunks, diving pool with climbing wall, Olympic slide into the pool, state-of-the-art theater, quality football field surrounded by a track, two zip lines across the lake, four new tennis courts, all bunks remodeled with air conditioning, tricycle boats, paddle boats, archery, mini-golf, and a game room.

This summer Camp Dora Golding added a brand new Shul/Bais Medrash in the heart of camp, right off the lake. The beauty of the building’s exterior is only rivaled by its stunning interior. More than one person has quipped that the new shul is nicer than many shuls “back home.”

On Sunday evening, June 29, 2014, in the waning moments of Rosh Chodesh Tamuz, Camp Dora Golding celebrated the chanukas habayis of its new shul. With jovial music playing, campers marched from the dining room alongside staff members who had torches in hand. Behind them was a chupah under which members of the administration carried the camp’s Sefer Torah. The procession proceeded down to the new shul, where chains were formed outside. The camp’s Learning Director, Rabbi Noach Sauber, brought the Torah to the outside of the new shul and handed it to the Nikolsburger Rebbe who had joined the camp for the momentous event.

After the dancing concluded, the Rebbe addressed the entire camp. He inspired the campers as he spoke about the greatness of Torah, Klal Yisroel, and how special it is to build a new makon tefillah and Torah. After maariv every camper and staff member greeted the Rebbe and received a danish, a card containing a perek of Tehillim, and a picture of the Rebbe.

It was a special event for Camp Dora Golding and it helped kick off another incredible camping season at a camp already legendary as a place where lifetime memories are constantly being made.
