The administration of TABC is proud to announce that graduating senior Gavi Kigner has been named valedictorian of the Class of 2022. In addition, Shimshy Gordon and Nachi Scheiner have each been named salutatorians.

Gavi, a son of Alisa and Jeffrey Kigner of Springfield, followed his older brother Orrin Kigner ‘16 in attending TABC after graduating from Yeshivat Noam. In addition to earning top grades in a rigorous dual curricular program, Gavi serves as the captain of the College Bowl, History Bowl and Debate teams and has competed in Science Olympiad and the Jerusalem Science Contest. He is also a writer for the school’s weekly Torah publication, Kol Torah and a senior mentor. Outside of school, Gavi is a volunteer for Friendship Circle, tutors math and, most notably perhaps, was part of a research team through the New Jersey Governor’s School of Engineering and Technology. His team submitted research on a hydroelectric sensor system for monitoring stormwater pollutants to an international undergraduate research and technology conference from MIT, and was accepted to present.

Gavi plans to attend Yeshivat Har Etzion (Gush) next year followed by Johns Hopkins.

Shimshy Gordon and Nachi Scheiner were named salutatorians. In addition to their academic accomplishments, both have been active members of student life at TABC. Gordon is the captain of the Torah Bowl team and a member of TABC’s highly ranked Math League team, College Bowl team, and Robotics teams. He has also done the sound effects for nearly every TABC theater production since his freshman year. He is a son of Lori and Daniel Gordon of Monsey. Next year, he will attend Yeshivat HaKotel followed by Rutger Honors, where he plans to study engineering.

Scheiner is captain of the Model Beis Din and Mock Trial teams as well as the founder and president of the popular TABC’s Shnayim Mikra Challenge. As a participant in the annual YU Hackathon, his team won first place with a water-saving shower design. He is also a peer tutor, writer for Kol Torah and a member of the Math League team. He has been very active in tzedaka and chesed opportunities at TABC, including SINAI lunch buddies and Pink Day. As the youngest child of Ida and Marc Sheiner (with four older sisters!) he is the first and only member of his family to attend TABC. He plans to attend Shaalvim next year followed by YU Honors.

“Gavi, Shimshy and Nachi have performed exceedingly well academically, but more importantly, they have been exemplary citizens of TABC throughout their four years,” said Rabbi Steven Finkelstein, interim principal. “We are proud to recognize their accomplishments and the diverse and talented Class of 2022 as a whole.”
