WDS Shines at Wax Museum

A cornerstone of the WDS fourth grade experience is the annual Wax Museum. Each student is assigned a well-known person from a historical category such as Native Americans, important women in history, pioneers, presidential wives and more. The students spent several weeks reading about their assigned historical figure, taking notes on key facts and writing a script to share all about the person. On May 17, the fourth graders dressed up as their individuals, complete with props to really bring their historical figure to life while sharing a detailed summary of their life. Family, friends and WDS faculty came to check out this year’s exhibit. Using “Slater dollars,” students came to life when museum visitors deposited $100 at their station. What a thrill it was to watch each student perform! It was such a rewarding experience to see the practice of the roles come to life and the time put into the research pay off. The students were well prepared by classroom teacher Andrew Slater with the assistance of Morah Debby Epstein and Morah Yasmin Shabtay.
