The sixth grade Earth Science classes at Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva started learning about the Earth’s surface changes and how these changes can be over a short or long period of time. They studied fast acting changes in the Earth, such as landslides, as well as gradual changes, such as the slow and continuous movement of the continents. The students were also able to recognize how even small changes on Earth’s surface, such as someone stepping on the sand at the beach; or larger changes, such as a piece of a glacier breaking off and falling into the ocean—can have a ripple effect and large impact throughout the world.
In order to see and learn about these changes, the students combined sodium borate and water to create their own crystals. By doing this, they were able to witness a small yet fast change before their eyes!
