Seasons, the kosher grocery-store chain with locations in Clifton, New Jersey; New York’s Upper West Side; Queens; and elsewhere, has filed for bankruptcy.
The company reportedly owes $42 million to vendors, landlords and banks, according to the Chapter 11 filing.
The chain was started in 2010 by Mayer Gold and Zvi Bloom, with the location in Flushing, Queens, and eventually grew to include supermarkets in Scarsdale, New York; Lakewood, New Jersey; Clifton, New Jersey; Lawrence, New York; and Baltimore, Maryland.
There have been reports of empty shelves in the various locations swirling for weeks. Last month, Kol Habirah reported that the Baltimore location hadn’t had a meat delivery in several weeks. Customers at the Clifton location reported no meat as well. At this time, it remains unclear if Seasons locations will close or if the chain is looking for a buyer.
