Second Teaneck 5K/Fun Run to Be Held in May

(Courtesy of TOPS) On May 31, Teaneck will host its third 5K race, sponsored by the Teaneck Organization for Public Schools (TOPS), to help supplement funding for technology, math and literacy programs for the students of Teaneck’s public schools. The 5K race has been fully certified and sanctioned by U.S. Track & Field. There will also be a one-mile Color Fun Run so that children and families of all ages and abilities can participate.

“I want to thank T.O.P.S. and our community members who came out to support our schools last year,” said Christopher Irving, superintendent of Teaneck Public Schools. “As a result of the 2019 event, our district received a $20,000 donation from TOPS Now I invite you to join me as a runner or walker this May in support of a truly worthy cause: our public schools and the children they serve.”

TOPS is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) educational foundation whose sole mission is to support the children—and their families—of the Teaneck public schools. Since its founding in 1991, TOPS has contributed about $100,000 to Teaneck’s public schools.

Equally important, the 5K/Fun Run is a community-building event that also benefits the runners.

Phil Ball, a long-time Teaneck resident said, “My participation in the last Teaneck 5K run contributed to my ongoing commitment to follow diet, exercise and leisure to maintain and improve the qualities of my life. This is particularly important as I approach my 92nd birthday on April 1, 2020. I now train on a treadmill with a goal of gradually reaching a daily workout of 3.1 miles in approximately an hour as a prelude of my participation in Teaneck’s 2020 5K. The annual 5K is a tremendous motivating asset to helping me maintain top physical condition relative to my age.”

The Teaneck 5K is an official USATF sanctioned and timed race. All proceeds to go to the Teaneck public schools. Runners, walkers, wheelchairs or strollers: all levels of participation are welcome. Participants can register now ($25/person for the 5K; $15/person for the Color Run) at https://TOPSteaneck.org. Registration fees increase by $5 after April 30.
