RKYHS kicked off the first SEED (Student Enrichment, Education, and Development) speaker of the year. SEED is a weekly speaker series that offers students new and differing perspectives on a wide range of topics. Accomplished and broad-thinking professionals visit each week to speak to students as part of the speaker program.
Students at RKYHS had the chance to hear from Dr. Paul Wichansky, a motivational speaker who has inspired hundreds of thousands of people nationwide. Dr. Wichansky has overcome the effects of cerebral palsy and hearing loss and shared the positive perspectives and realities of triumphing over these challenges and combating bullying. Using humorous and insightful stories and calling on life experiences, he instilled in the students the importance of treating their peers, parents and others with respect. He encouraged students to live their lives with positivity. Dr. Wichansky’s talk set the tone at this early point in the school year to remind students that everyone faces their own challenges, and students should consider how to confront and overcome them, how to seek help and how to help others.
