New Jersey Senator Cory Booker took time out of his day to meet with students at RKYHS last Wednesday. Booker, who was speaking to them on Yom Ha’atzmaut spoke to students on a variety of topics. He discussed the current Covid-19 situation and responses to the pandemic. Quoting from Tanach, he described how we are all standing in a storm with a crisis around us. We all need to look at the situation, not with despair, but determine how you will respond. Senator Booker encouraged students to be agents of light, of chesed and of tzedaka, to take ownership of whatever part of the situation that they can and make it better. He also fielded questions from students about BDS, the U.S.-Israel relationship, different communities’ responses to Covid-19 and more.
