Senator Gordon Visits BPY

This past Wednesday, BPY was privileged to welcome Senator Gordon Johnson as he visited the school and saw firsthand the positive impact of the STEM grant for nonpublic schools. Senator Gordon was recently elected as a senator and represents New Jersey’s 37th district (Teaneck, Englewood, Tenafly, Fort Lee). He co-sponsored the nonpublic STEM bill which allowed BPY to bring in highly experienced public school STEM teachers. After receiving a tour of the Discovery Room, led by fourth grade scientists, Senator Gordon made his way to the middle school lab where he spoke with the STEM class and answered their thoughtful questions.

Through this grant opportunity, Mauna Trivedi, from Clifton High School, was able to join the middle school faculty as she teaches a STEM elective and after school STEM program. Students have had the opportunity to build bridges, work on circuitry and explore the engineering of ferris wheels and their connection to water propelled energy. In the after school program, students became Google Suite experts and are now designing and printing 3D creations.

BPY is truly thankful to Senator Gordon, Teach NJ and all of the people involved in providing this amazing STEM opportunity!
