Senior Sleep Issues Are Addressed at Lavy House in Westfield

An informational program on “Dreaming of a Good Night’s Sleep: How You Can Help Yourself,” for seniors and their families, will take place on Tuesday, May 23, at 11:30 a.m. at The Senior Resource Center at The Lavy House, 748 E. Broad Street, Westfield, NJ. The program will be presented by Jewish Family Service of Central NJ nurse Kathleen McMahon, EdM, MA, RN. A light lunch will be served, dietary laws observed.

Many older adults develop sleep problems as they age. They may begin to have a harder time falling asleep, and start waking up more often during the night and earlier in the morning. There’s lots of time in bed tossing and turning, resulting in daytime exhaustion. A restful night may become a thing of the past. In this presentation, McMahon will discuss strategies toward achieving that longed-for good night’s sleep.

McMahon is a seasoned registered nurse who has experience working in both hospital and community-health settings. She was instrumental in implementing the JFS Care Transitions program with Trinitas Regional Medical Center and Holy Redeemer.

The Senior Resource Center at The Lavy House is a joint venture between The Westfield United Fund and Temple Emanu-El of Westfield. Through a grant from the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest NJ, Jewish Family Service of Central NJ provides programming and the services of social worker Naomi Kreutzer, LCSW, each Tuesday. Programs are free of charge and open to the entire community.

Registration is recommended if you plan to attend. Email [email protected] or call 908-352-8375.
