“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” As the more extreme weather seasons approach, that adage gains tremendous weight in the HVAC business. Denis Cekic, owner of Serv-Tech Heating & Cooling, LLC, recommends service appointments for heating and air conditioning prior to the start of the winter and summer seasons.
“You don’t want to have a situation where you have no heat in the middle of the night or on a weekend,” said Cekic, a Master HVAC (heating, ventilation and a/c) contractor. “You should make sure it’s all working before you need to use it.”
In Cekic’s line of work he is often called upon to help people in emergency HVAC situations, and he makes sure to always be available. Serv-Tech is a 24/7 business.
“The most important thing is to establish trust with your customers. They need to know you are reliable and responsible, will guarantee your work, and will be available in case of emergencies,” Cekic added.
That trust is most important to Cekic. It is how he is building his business—through word of mouth from satisfied customers. In fact, Serv-Tech’s mission statement is “Your comfort is our mission,” reflecting Cekic’s desire to establish a good working relationship with his customers even before he enters their homes.
Serv-Tech is licensed, bonded and insured, which Cekic says is vital to earning customers’ trust and repeat business. The customer knows they have recourse should any issues arise.
“Customers need to know that I stand behind all my work and take responsibility for it as well. That’s what will make them call me again,” he emphasized.
Based in Sayreville, Serv-Tech has been operating for almost a year, and its customer base has grown exponentially during that time. It began as a one-man shop, but in the last six months Cekic has had to take on an apprentice to assist him as his workload has grown. He welcomes the additional business and is looking to expand further.
Much of Cekic’s current business takes him to Middlesex and Essex counties, but he is willing to travel further if opportunities present themselves.
“I would like to get into Bergen County,” he said. “I would even move my shop to Union county so I would be more centrally located, if necessary.”
