Setting the Record Straight on Cory Booker

With regards to your headline “Have We Lost Cory Booker?” (August 9, 2018), we never had Cory Booker to begin with. Cory Booker had us.

It amazes me that with all the supposedly smart people we have in our communities, we constantly believe that there are politicians working for what we want and need. Cory Booker is glad to have our communities fund raise for him and work on convincing people to vote for him. This allows him to keep his job and collect a very nice salary and great benefits. Benefits that aren’t available to anyone outside of Congress. But he has no allegiance to the Jewish Community. If tomorrow he finds a new group of people who could benefit him and his goals, he will do what they request of him.

Jews throughout the years made the same mistakes over and over. We believed that Pharaoh and the Egyptians would be good to us because of Joseph saving their country. Nope. Jews in Germany didn’t believe the Germans would do anything to them because they had businesses, paid taxes, contributed to the country, socialized with them. Wrong again. And each time it costs us not just in money but in Jewish blood.

We forget that we are minorities in New Jersey and when it comes to voting, he will look for the majorities in this state who can help keep him in Congress. I’m sure he’s happy to have some extra votes and money for his campaign, but the fact is he doesn’t need us and wouldn’t shed a tear if all the Jews in New Jersey voted Republican. Cory Booker is in this for one person and that is for Cory Booker.

In regards to his comments that “he had no idea the sign he held is linked to pro-Palestinian movement”, he is a very smart man. I doubt that he would allow himself to take a picture with one or more people, especially people wearing shirts and carrying placards for a specific cause, without knowing who they are and what they represent. But again, he will align himself with anyone who will advance his career. And if he truly didn’t read the placard first, maybe we should ask ourselves if we want someone in office representing New Jersey residents who will hold any placard without knowing whether it’s appropriate or not. I guarantee you if the placard had been racist to other groups in New Jersey, he wouldn’t have gone within 100 feet of it.

I guess it’s true what they say about history. “Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it” – George Santayana.
