Shabbat Chazzanut at YI of Teaneck This Weekend

Teaneck—The Young Israel of Teaneck will host the Joseph Dresdner, z’l, Memorial Shabbat Chazanut featuring Cantor Netanel Hershtik and the Hamptons Synagogue Choir conducted by Izchak Haimov. The event will take place on Shabbat Parshat Zachor, March 14 and 15, and is the perfect way to prepare for Purim, which begins that Motza’ai Shabbat. Cantor Hershtik will be leading Kabalat Shabbat services on Friday evening and Shabbat morning services the following day.

As a youngster, Hershtik’s musical talent quickly became apparent through his regular appearances as a child soloist in the Jerusalem Great Synagogue with his father, Naftali Hershtik. At the age of seven he sang with his father in Australia and throughout America, and Europe. His concert appearances, both in Israel and worldwide, include performances with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, and the Symphonet Ra’anana, as well as with the world’s leading cantorial male voice choirs as conducted by Itzchak Haimov, Matthew Lazar, and Marc Temerlies. Hershtik has performed in the world’s most acclaimed concert halls, such as Lincoln Center, the Sydney Opera House, and Casino de Paris. Hershtik was also the first cantor to be invited to perform at the UN in a Holocaust remembrance ceremony in 2006. Hershtik’s cantorial style is a blend of his artistic originality as well as his father’s inspiring influence, teaching, and signature cantorial style.
