Shahar Azani from Stand With Us, an organization which focuses on education to defend Israel in schools and college campuses, addressed Yavneh Academy seventh graders this past Wednesday. He spoke to launch their next unit in Advisory Class on the importance of standing up for what is right and specifically for Israel. This unit stresses the power of political action. The class stressed the concept of “Do not stand idly by;” the importance of getting involved when you see injustice in the world, even if it does not directly affect you. Equally as important, the students’ political action will hopefully translate into the way they try to stop injustice in their lives, i.e. bullying, cheating etc. Students discussed the obligation to be “upstanders” and do something in their own backyards as well. Azani shared with the students how Israel is misunderstood in today’s world and how through kiddush Hashem for Israel we can educate those who are ignorant about the wonderful aspects of Israel.
