The RKYHS shabbaton is usually the highlight of the school year when the whole school comes together for an inspirational Shabbat of friends, learning, bonding and fun. This year, each grade at RKYHS will be enjoying a sha-POD-ton!
Eleventh and 12th grades recently had their individual grade’s turn on separate Fridays. Dressed up for Shabbat, students arrived at school and participated in a day of programming that was modeled after the usual shabbaton schedule. After Shacharit, students took “pre-Shabbat pictures” and enjoyed breakfast “hors d’oeuvres.” Sha-POD-ton programming began with learning sessions with faculty for the juniors. At the ShaPODton for seniors, fellow senior classmates led the learning sessions. Juniors participated in a grade-wide challah bake and seniors enjoyed a babka bake and deli roll making. Both grades had their chance for ShaPODton Chill with Ping Pong, nok hockey, board games, spike ball and more, then a grade gameshow, Curfew! the game—a simulated interactive game of Clue. The day for each grade concluded with Mincha, followed by a delicious lunch feast, complete with Shabbat specialties and a shabbat “ruach” complete with raffle prizes!
