On Sunday, November 12, at the Burn Advocates Headquarters in Teaneck, Yoel Har-Even, global director of Sheba Tel HaShomer, spoke about the aftermath of October 7. Sheba treats IDF soldiers, the most injured, and houses the national burn center of Israel. In the United States, only the Mayo Clinic has a larger campus than Sheba Tel HaShomer. Burn Advocates founded the pediatric laser treatment center housed at Sheba (I-Pearls) as well as Camp Sababa, to help children heal from both the physical and emotional scars from burns.
Dr. Har-Even discussed the many amputations that had to be performed from the injuries that victims sustained that day, and of the many extraordinary acts of heroism. He recounted the story of a man who was able to hold a safe room door shut but lost one hand and many fingers as Hamas terrorists shot at him through the door.
Dr. Har-Even told of the challenges ahead, including the large number of civilians who are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Like all of Israel, Sheba will rise to meet the need. Donation link: https://give.afsmc.org/give/536317/#!/donation/checkout
