Shomer Shabbat Boy Scouts Are on the Move

Teaneck’s Shomer Shabbat scouts got started off to a great year. At the opening BBQ on September 8, the attendees enjoyed great food (and roasted marshmallows) and experienced scouting skills like whittling, hiking Pinewood Derby, fishing and camping. Taking advantage of the Jewish calendar layout this year that freed up the usually busy September, the scouts had a very successful Shabbos campout over the weekend of September 13-15 in nearby Alpine, New Jeresey. Forty-five attendees experienced a beautiful achdus-filled ruach weekend together, with the highlight being the exciting campfire kumzitz on Saturday night. The unique experience of tenting together in the eruv-encircled campsite will remain in the minds of the participants.

The coming weeks’ programs include apple picking, sailboating in Long Island Sound, pack meetings, hiking, a Sukkot campout and a bike trip.
