SINAI Schools invites the community to an original production of “October Sky.” Featuring the students of SINAI’s Karasick Shalem High School at TABC and directed by SINAI teachers, “October Sky” will be performed at 6:30 p.m. on May 15 at Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School, 1650 Palisade Avenue in Teaneck.
“October Sky” is based on a movie about a coal miner’s son living in Coalwood, West Virginia, who is expected to become a miner like his dad. Inspired by the launch of Sputnik, he and his friends take up rocketry instead and connect with a group of scientists who support their endeavors.
The SINAI production of “October Sky” serves as a culmination of a yearlong therapeutic drama program. Work begins in September when SINAI teachers begin adapting scripts and roles to match the strengths of each student. Throughout the year, teachers emphasize skills such as expressive language, organization and collaboration. This unique program is designed to promote social development, build confidence and create a powerful unity of the student body and school community.
