Sixth Grade Moriah Mountaineers Complete Perfect Season

Monday night’s championship sixth grade girls matchup between the undefeated Moriah Mountaineers and the Noam Knights was nothing short of awesome and intense. The Knights came into the matchup looking to defeat the Mountaineers and give them their only loss of the season.

The game started fast with Noam’s Hodaya Ciner scoring a quick 3-pointer to give Noam the early lead. Sophia Schwalbe of the Mountaineers turned it up by knocking down two quick 3-pointers herself, putting Moriah ahead. Moriah would maintain that lead, but Noam would not make it easy. By the half, Moriah only led by seven.

Coming out of halftime, Moriah was determined to bring home the championship. Throughout the third quarter, the score remained close with Noam making some clutch shots to keep them in the game. However, Moriah would not let up. Lula Glezerman secured some huge, key rebounds for Moriah, as well as put-backs, keeping them ahead going into the fourth quarter.

Mia Berger scored at clutch moments to keep Moriah ahead, and passing and defensive efforts from Aela Blierer and Nessyia Edell allowed Moriah to feel confident starting the fourth quarter. Noam fought hard throughout, hitting some clutch 3-pointers to bring the game within four points with a little under three minutes to go. Ultimately, Moriah’s confidence and team effort allowed them to capitalize on key moments in the game and bring home the championship.
