Solène is a curated boutique with a department store concept for hats, accessories, beauty products and hosiery, launched in January 2016 at 1438 Queen Anne Road in Teaneck. Founder Omri Amar said he created Solène to evoke age-old Parisian boutiques that emphasize quality and style. “My vision is to have tightly edited collections across hats, beauty, hosiery and accessories,” Omri said. “I have chosen the best in each category so everyone will have options that are right for them.”
The fall/winter collection of hats is currently on display, with the spring styles coming in a few weeks. Some popular styles include classic fedoras, berets, fascinators and the cloche. Brightly colored bows, headbands and socks for children will be displayed on a wall dedicated for kids. Beginning February 14, licensed makeup artists will be available by appointment to give you the perfect look before heading out to a special occasion. Solène will be carrying several lines of mineral-based makeup which are long lasting and great for Shabbos.
Omri grew up in the millinery business. His parents own Sherel’s Hats, which are located in Brooklyn and Cedarhurst. Omri developed the technical skills of hat making in his parents’ factory, sitting with accomplished hatmakers who have been making hats for nearly 40 years. Seeing a void in the market, he decided to establish a new business in the “burgeoning community of Teaneck” where women could come and shop for their fashion and beauty essentials all in one place.
Omri makes his own hats in addition to carrying a mix of lines in both designer and casual wear. His handmade hats are conceived, designed and finished in the workshop on premises. “The benefit of buying here is that all our hats are made start to finish by hand, with the finest materials from the U.S., Europe and Asia,” Omri said. “Our hats are timeless and will last a lifetime.” Custom hats are available if you’re looking for something unique, or want a hat that’s made to measure.
What should you look for in a hat? “Your overall look should complement what you’re wearing,” says Omri. “If you’re wearing a very feminine outfit, look for a hat with flowers, feathers or bows. If you’re wearing a tailored outfit, look for a more structured or tailored hat. Aim for general consistency. Brim and crown sizes are a personal choice but they have to have the right proportions. “Colors and textures change seasonally so don’t hesitate to play and explore,” Omri suggests. “Go out of your comfort zone. A seasoned hat wearer knows how to have an assortment of styles.”
Omri’s best advice for choosing a hat? “Wear what you love. And whatever you choose, wear it with confidence.”
