SSDS to Host Fifth Annual Israel Night —Advance Screening of ‘On the Map’

Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County will host an advance screening of the film ‘ On the Map’  on Sunday, September 25, at 7 p.m. at Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County. SSDS is located at 275 McKinley Avenue in New Milford, New Jersey. The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Bob Griffin, 1972-1979 Maccabi Tel Aviv point guard; and Penny Amodai, former Maccabi Tel Aviv director of international operations and current NBA manager of international basketball and elite development.Directed by Dani Menkin and produced by Nancy Spielberg and Roberta Grossman, “On the Map” recounts the captivating and inspiring story of the 1977 Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball team that, against all odds, beat the four-time defending European Champion Soviets to become “The Team of the Nation.” Featuring interviews with the athletes who made history, “On the Map”combines the pulse-pounding action of a high-stakes game with an incendiary political situation at the height of the Cold War to deliver a film that honors Israeli heroes, thrills fans of the game and captures the spirit of a triumphant nation.

General admission is $18. Additional ticket and sponsorship information can be found at www.ssdsbergen.org. All proceeds benefit the Stephanie Prezant z”l Israel Scholarship Fund, which provides support to SSDS students in need of financial assistance for Schechter’s eighth grade Israel Encounter. The fund is named in memory of SSDS alumnae Stephanie Prezant (‘04) z”l, who had a lifelong love of Israel. Students will travel to Israel in April of 2017.
