The Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County (SSDS) will honor outstanding champions of Jewish education at its 41st Annual Community Celebration Thursday, May 7 at the Hilton Pearl River. Proceeds from the evening support Schechter’s cutting-edge curriculum and tuition assistance for students in need.
Honorees Renah and Rabbi Mayer Rabinowitz, and their son and daughter-in-law, Adi and Heather Rabinowitz, embody Schechter’s mission of educating children to be independent thinkers and compassionate adults who will contribute to the Jewish and greater global communities. The entire family, including daughters and sons-in-law Dalya & Jonathan and Ayelet & Jeff, exemplify Jewish values, giving of themselves to their communities, and to Klal Yisrael.
Renah and Mayer have inspired their community, children, and now, grandchildren, to engage, learn, and celebrate as committed Jews. They continue to spearhead numerous Jewish learning and holiday programs in their synagogue, and generously volunteer their time for organizations locally and in Israel. Mayer received his rabbinic ordination and PhD from the Jewish Theological Seminary, where he served as dean of the graduate school, associate professor of Talmud and Rabbinics, and seminary librarian for more than 45 years.
Renah spent more than a decade as northern New Jersey coordinator of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School, and was instrumental in establishing Congregation Beth Sholom’s first hesed committee, which provides meals and other support to members in times of need.
Following their parents’ path, Adi and Heather Rabinowitz have taken active roles in nearly every aspect of Schechter life. Adi has served as vice president and treasurer of the SSDS Board of Trustees and Heather on the board of the AHAVA parents’ association. She also serves as a parent ambassador for Schechter’s Bruhim Team, and continues to chair many community events. They live in Closter and have three children, Maya, Coby, and Liana—all students at SSDS.
Tickets for the evening are $180 per person. Alumni and under-30 discounts are available. Tickets can be purchased on line at www.ssdsbergen.org. For more information, contact the SSDS Director of Institutional Advancement, Amy Glazer, at [email protected] or 201-262-9898 ext. 277.
