Last week, the Frisch Museum of Contemporary History debuted to parents, friends and faculty of the sophomores. Visitors viewed the remarkable and informative exhibits on which students have been so diligently at work for the past two months.
The entire sophomore grade worked together to create and curate a unified exhibit that tells the history of the contemporary world outside the United States from 1950 to the present. Among more than 150 different exhibits, stories were told of the Sierra Leone Civil War; Margaret Thatcher, Deforestation of the Amazon; The Beatles; the World Health Organization; Indira Ghandi; The Cultural Revolution; Ai Weiwei; and the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow.
“The museum project gave students the opportunity to study events, personalities, movements, and moments outside of the traditional historical narrative,” explained Dr. Zadoff. “Through utilizing methods of historical research, analysis and interpretation, students created dynamic and sophisticated exhibits that enabled them to gain expertise in the history of the recent past.”
