Sports at Camp Monroe Highlight MTA’s Lag B’Omer

Last Thursday was the annual Yeshiva University High School for Boys (MTA) trip to Camp Monroe. Upon arriving at the beautiful campus in Monroe, New York, the MTA students quickly began games of volleyball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, mini golf, football, softball, basketball and ping pong. There was a shiur given for those who wanted to start their day off with some Torah.

After two hours of sports (and learning) in perfect weather, the boys and faculty enjoyed a barbecue lunch. During the lunch break, the highly touted annual rebbe-talmid softball game was held, featuring rebbeim and staff members, including Shuey Jacoby, Elie Hirt, and Avi Matanky. After nine innings, for the first time in as long as anyone can remember, the rebbeim were not losing; after an infield single, Rabbi Axelrod drove in the tying run, bringing the final score to 3-3. Following the game, everyone gathered for Mincha.

MTA’s Student Activities staff, Rabbi Green and Elie Hirt, put together this Lag B’Omer trip and the Camp Monroe staff were gracious hosts.
