The Jewish Link and Drink Up would like to recognize 14-year-old Aryeh Owrutsky as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The eighth grader at the Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey is the ultimate assist master, and that is not just when he’s on the court. Regardless of the situation and despite being busy with his studies, Aryeh is the first to assist anyone with anything. Always sporting a casual, friendly smile, he can be counted on to pass a kind word, score a compliment or serve up a thank you to others. Aryeh is a fan favorite among his peers as a go-to player.

Aryeh, mazel tov on being recognized as Sportstar of the Week. Who is your role model and why? My sister Golde. She encouraged me to get into sports.

What is your favorite sport and why?

Hockey, because it is the most fun for me.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Scoring my first hockey goal.

Who is your favorite professional athlete and why?

Martin Brodeur, former goalie for the NJ Devils. He was one of the best goalies ever in hockey.

What is your pregame routine?

Taking several shots on goal.

What is your earliest sports memory?

First game, in fourth grade, when I scored my first goal.

What is your weirdest sports memory?

When Marty Brodeur, former NJ Devils goalie, scored on the opposing goalie, scoring all by himself with one shot.

What is your favorite sports memory?

Winning the soccer championship.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

Spend time with my friends.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

Being a Sportstar helps me remember my favorite sports memories.
