Ma’ayanot Bball Varsity Starts Off Strong

(Courtesy of Ma’ayanot) It was a great opening game for the Ma’ayanot Rapids varsity basketball team as they faced off against Kushner. With both teams finally getting a chance to play again after a long break due to Covid, the first quarter started off slowly for the Rapids. After Kushner took an early lead, the Rapids came back and ended the first quarter with senior captains Leah Weiss knocking down two free throws and Tali Klein hitting two shots. As the game progressed, the persistent defense from junior Hannah Bromberg, strong rebounding from juniors Sara Motechin, Aliza Poloner and Ella Ashendorf allowed the Rapids to expand on their lead.

Seniors Mayan Kapustin and Yael Bodoff each knocked in a bucket. Weiss had stellar ball handling and ended with 10 points and Klein—with non-stop pressure on defense, including several blocks, and drives to the basket—ended with 14 points. The final score was 32-17. “This was a great way to start our season” said Coach Jill Marino, “The players have been looking forward to getting back on the court, and tonight they showed they were ready to play.” The varsity Rapids host SAR on Monday night.
