The Humble Toast Sportstar of the Week: Max Mauskopf

The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Max Mauskopf as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Chabad of Tenafly seventh grader had an amazing week at Camp Dovid this summer, winning playoff MVP with two postseason shutouts. When asked about his goalie phenom son, Eric Mauskopf told The Jewish Link, “Playing goalie in hockey is probably the hardest position for a player and the player’s parents. As a player, you have to be hyper focused, even tempered and have the ability to give up a goal and shake it off and get right back into the game. This is not so easy for most, but Max has the ability to be successful at it. As a parent, it’s hard watching your kid potentially be the, or one of the, reasons why the team won or lost. Watching Max play has made us very proud and we believe he has many years of playing goalie ahead of him.”

Max, congrats on the Camp Dovid MVP and on being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who is your role model and why?

My dad because he encourages me to play hard and always do the right thing.

What is your favorite sport?

Hockey because it’s a team sport. I love how fast it can be.

What is your pregame routine?

Stretching and listening to fast paced electronic music.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Giving up no goals in the semifinals and championship—and winning the championship and MVP—in Camp Dovid this summer.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Semyon Varlamov, the goalie for the New York Islanders. I’m a goalie and he’s a great goalie and makes playing goalie exciting.

What is your earliest sports memory?

Hitting a triple when I was around 7 or 8 years old. My team was losing by two in the last inning at TBO and my triple scored two runs to tie the game. The next batter got a hit and I came home for the game winning run.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

I love hanging out with my friends, talking and laughing.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

Being recognized by everyone around me for playing great and helping my team be victorious.

The Humble Toast Sportstar of the week will receive a $25 gift card to The Humble Toast. Please send nominees for an upcoming The Humble Toast Jewish Link Sportstar of the Week to [email protected].
