The Bruriah Lightning recently improved to 8-2 with a 65-47 home win against Ma’ayanot.
The team dusted off the rust that accumulated during its 12-day break from basketball to get off to a quick start right from the tip when Nikki Bick was fouled on a layup to open the game. She hit one of her two foul shots to which Ma’ayanot answered with a basket. Bick countered with another two and the Lightning never looked back. The combination of pressure defense and quickness afforded the Lightning a 37-23 half-time lead. Steals by Gabi Goldberg, Michal Hyman, and Bick led to many easy buckets. Partnering on defense with these three were Tovah Weiskopf, Nechama Maryles, and Shira Hagler. Bick, Ally Orgel, Dani Berlin and Michal Hyman led the offense. Hyman’s exciting put back midway through the game gave the crowd something additional to cheer about!
The Lightning’s rampage continued this past Motzei Shabbos. The inclement weather didn’t deter the now 9-2 lightning as, after a slow start, the team ramped up its defense which helped turn a 10-point lead into 21-points and victory. Nikki Bick’s drive along the baseline for a reverse layup was the move of the season. Michal Hyman led the Lightning in steals and Nechama Maryles was a rebounding machine. Tovah Weiskopf and Shira Hagler led the offense.
The Lightning plays its final game of the regular season at home against Hillel on Tuesday, 2/3.
